Hasn't every generation (even yours you old, rose tinted glass wearing AARP members) had a segment of the population that either A) Didn't give a rats ass about cars or the culture of them and B) Only saw cars as mundane tools to get more important things done and C) Were probably too poor to afford anything cool or awesome and instead put their money into other things they cared about?

Why is this always being made up into a news sensation? Newsflash people! Young people tend to be poor(er) and tend to spend their money in areas that more immediately benefit or otherwise impact their life, and not every single person in my generation right now cares about cars or what car culture is.

Has that really, ever changed?

There is no 'marketing to millennials'. Because we don't have a problem with the cars you are making. We just don't have the money to spend on them, trust me if I had enough spare change after taking care of all other expenses I'd be actively looking for something awesomesauce, but since I'm relatively still a kid whats the benefit in blowing money on something I have absolutely no need for?

I don't get the whole 'situation'. Maybe its cause I haven't had the morning coffee and am not thinking right now. Me thinks this whole millennial conundrum is, well, poppycock.

Almost all of my great-great-grandparents' generation didn't care about cars.

I'm pretty sure cars and education were tied more closely to average income in the past whereas nowadays all bets are off.

I agree with you..

oh.. and... HEY KIDS.. GET OFF MY LAWN..

But yeah, generation this and that does this and that and this and that is bad because this and that? Just stop that bullshit, I'm quite sure that the ancient smart ones had the same complaints.

There's a reason I don't buy new cars. If I could afford a new Civic or a used Jag, I'd take the Jag. If I could afford a new Jag or a used Bentley, I'd take the Bentley. If I could afford a new Bentley, I'd get a used Pierce-Arrow. If I could afford a new Pierce-Arrow...well, they don't make new Pierce-Arrows.

But you did buy a Bentley.

You also don't wear socks.

Also, these millennials have MASSIVELY higher amounts of student loans than the baby boomers did. Why? Because the world has evolved into a smarter place, forcing anybody hoping to make above minimum wage to get a college degree. And the people running the colleges know that.

I am paying $700/mo for my student loans. If I didn't have those, I'd have myself a brand new BMW. Instead, I bought my wife a used Forester and I'm rocking a 13 y/o car until it blows up

I think this is "millenial rant day" in oppo-land because I just posted a similar rant about my personal experiences and that it shows "fiscal responsibility" to not immediately saddle yourself with debt and interest rates at the exact instant you could finagle the numbers to say you can "afford" it.

Bingo.

Not to toot my own horn, but I have enough capital to run to a bank and ask for 150k in line of credit so I could go buy a F-Type.

How smart is that though? Not really smart at all. Stupid, actually.

I'll go buy insane cars when I'm clear of debt (all 4500 of student loans that I have left) and I have a job that pays enough to cover my ass in all aspects so that I can spend more.

I'd rather not be THAT guy who screwed up his financials over a car. Not worth it.

Millennial's can't afford new cars because they were stupid when it came to college. They didn't shop around for the best deal in terms of schools monetary value. No they are stuck with loads of debt and a job paying probably the same as if they were to go to a community college.

In conclusion Millennial's are idiots. What is funny is that they were stupid and made a 100k mistake but smart enough to not buy new and make a 10-20k mistake.

I only pay 400 a month in student loans so I sprung for a Legacy GT so I too can pay 700/month in loans :)

My son is a millennial and he drives a '55 Ford Fairlane.

Basically, this whole conversation about "millennials not being into cars" is bullshit. This is all about money and their lack of access to it relative to previous generations.

I think nothing has changed except for the internet playing a larger role in our lives. The reason why the people who dislike cars appear to have become more vocal is because they are not driving or doing other things except posting things on the internet where it is seen and then it becomes a whole big thing. It is all BS and I just don't pay attention to it except to tell the people who make generalizations about me to fuck off.

I could have taken a higher ranked school (not by that much) and been straddled with probably around a 100k more in fees. Instead I didn't and now I'm debt free, even with a masters.

My only remorse right now is that my rent is way too high. But that's the price you pay when you rent and have an animal.

My option was to go to a public school and be done in 5-6 years or go to a private school and be done in 4 and have a higher paying job (based on school averages). I took the latter of the 2. Granted I will have student loans for at least another 8 years, I am making a considerable amount more than my friends who went to public schools. I'm sure it comes out to a wash in the end

I'm cautious, why would going to a public school take more time to graduate from than a private?

I went private as well, but only because of the amount I was given and the accreditation the school had. I think it's hit or miss and how hard you apply yourself. I make more than friends who went to better schools than mine, but that's here not there.

UW-Madison requires that you spend your freshman year taking the pre-requisites, and then applying to the college of engineering which is limited to people with the best grades. My friend had a 3.97 GPA and still was not admitted. You can keep doing this until you're admitted, or you can go to UW-Platteville or UW-Milwaukee to boost your grades and transfer in and still wait. You spend extra time at a public school because as a freshman/sophomore, all of the classes you need to take are filled up before your sign-up time is, thus forcing you to prolong your stay. It's quite the flaw in the system...

I went to MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering) where you're enrolled in your program from day 1 and as long as you pass all of your classes, you're guaranteed to be in and out in 4 years. You also take 6 years of school (quarter system) in 4 years time, and they have an outstanding reputation in the midwest. That's not to say UW-Madison does not- they have an excellent reputation around the world, but in the midwest MSOE is regarded higher.

My parents were willing to pay for the equivalent of state tuition for 4 years, regardless of which school I chose. So it's either $20k in loan debt with one year less to save up for retirement, or $80k in loan debt with an extra $5k-$10k extra salary every year amortized for 45 years as a working professional. I know which one I'd pick.

This was my scenario. YMMV

Well from experience it's not as fast. 220hp vs 250hp. Not to mention the 4EAT really sucks a lot of power. The suspension is supple, but nothing that can carve corners. Of course all of this can be fixed with a VF-52 with a tune and some WRX or STI suspension bits.
